REWARD
"Congratulations, Mz. Perkins," Eilene Branson said
as she was taking another call from her receptionist's desk, "that was a big
one, wasn't it!?!" "Thank's, Eilene," Ellyn replied, "and yes, it was a very big
one, do you have any messages for me!?!" "Just one," the receptionist replied as
she handed her a slip of paper with a phone number scribbled on it, and oh yes,
Mr. Grogan wanted to see you as soon as you got in!!!" "Okay, thanks," Ellyn
replied over her shoulder as she made her way to Dick Grogan's large corner
office over looking Lake Michigan, "nice going, girl," Mike Walters yelled out
as she passed by his open door!!! An eleven million dollar verdict, the third
largest in the history of the firm, she had a right to feel proud, but it had
been a long six months from depositions to the final verdict in the district
court, and all she wanted to do now was take a three month vacation somewhere on
a sandy beach a million mile away from the phone!!! Dick Grogan's secretary,
Marcia met her with a big smile and a boquet of yellow roses while saying, "He's
waiting for you, go right on in!!!"
Dick Grogan nearly leaped out of his chair behind his gigantic mahogony desk,
and with his hand extended he announced, "Congratulations are certainly in
order, Ellyn, what are you trying to do, take over this office of mine!?!" "Of
course, not," she replied a little red faced, "I enjoy litigating too much, but
thanks for the compliment!!!" "So, now what's on your agenda," he asked
seriously!?! "Well," she replied tiredly, "I was kinda hoping to take a little
time off, I'm bushed and need to recharge my batteries!!!" "That's exactly what
I had in mind," Dick replied while reaching into his pocket to pull out two
airline tickets to Cancun, "they're open ended, take as long as you need!!!"
"Thanks a lot, boss," she replied gratefully after kissing him on the cheek,
"I'll see you in six weeks!!!" On her way back to her own office, the stress and
strain finally over took her as she slumped agaisnt the wall just to keep from
falling over, after taking a minute or two to regenerate her energy, she
straightened up and walked unsteadily the rest of the way to the other end of
the building!!!
Ellyn unlocked her office door and entered the semi dark room, flipped on the
light, and plopped down exhausted into her chair, and was about to close her
eyes for a little cat nap when from the far corner of her office a sultry
feminine voice offered, "Congratulations on a job well done, Mz. Perkins, I'm
here to help you celebrate!!!" "I'm really too tired for much celebrating,"
Ellyn replied quickly, "and by the way, how did you get into my office, I'm
pretty sure you don't have a key!?!" "No, I don't," the busty dark haired beauty
replied as she popped the cork on a bottle of champagne, "but Mr. Grogan does,
and he thought that you could use a little R&R!!!" "I know," Ellyn replied while
holding up her plane tickets, "but he never mentioned you when I was just in his
office!!!" "Of course not," the brunette replied while handing a just filled
glass to Ellyn, "I'm just a big surprise, now drink up, and relax and leave
everything to Afton!!!"
